diamond settings?

ForrestGreen Says:
What are the different settings for diamonds? Not talking about shapes- the settings of the metal around the diamonds. What are the pros and cons of each?

EmeraldCat Says:
There is the prong/claw, bezel, tension, channel, bar, invisible, pave, and bead.

The prong/claw consists of three or so metal prongs holding the diamond in place. It is the easiest to do and shows the most off of the diamond.

The bezel setting is when the whole diamond is encased in a metal ring around the diamond. Some see this as a negative because you cannot see a good portion of the diamond.

I will post more on the other settings later...gotta go.

EmeraldCat Says:
The tension setting is only used for rings and the diamond is squeezed in-between two metal ends that are not connected. The pros of this- the bottom and sides of the diamond can be seen.

The channel setting is when diamonds are placed side-by-side in a row with two metal pieces that overlap to keep the diamonds in place. No metal is placed between each diamond.

The bar is the same as the channel except it has metal between each diamond.

Invisible setting is when diamonds are placed into a metal framework.
